Certificate Programs
Certificate programs consist of a series of specialty courses totaling twelve (12) or more credit hours. Upon successful completion, a certificate is awarded. They are designed for the student aspiring to upgrade his/her skills within a career field or as preparation for one. Completion of a certificate does not mean however that a student is certified in their field of study.

Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is designed to give students essential skills required for entry-level employment as law enforcement officers with state, county, or municipal governments or with a private enterprise.
This program utilizes state-commission-mandated topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include, but are not limited to, criminal, juvenile, civil, traffic and alcoholic beverage laws; investigative, patrol, custody and court procedures; emergency responses, and ethics and community relations.
Successful graduates receive a curriculum certificate and are qualified to take certificate examinations mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and/or the North Carolina Sheriffs' Education and Training Standards Commission.

Central Sterile Processing - Code C45180
The Central Sterile Processing curriculum prepares individuals to function in the central service profession with the scientific principles that underlie their daily work.
Students will develop skills necessary to properly disinfect, prepare, process, store, and issue both sterile/nonsterile medical/surgical supplies and equipment for patient care. In addition, students will learn to operate sterilizing units and monitor effectiveness of the sterilization process.
Graduates will be eligible to apply to take the National Institute for the Certification of Healthcare Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel Examination. Employment opportunities include inpatient/outpatient surgery centers, dialysis units/facilities, and central processing units in hospitals.
Notes:
- This curriculum will only be offered in the spring semester.
- Student must be eligible for RED 090.
- Central Sterile Processing students are required to have a current (one year) CPR certification for adult, infant and child with choking maneuver.
- Clinicals in this program begin at 6 a.m. two days a week and are subject to change based on patient and hospital scheduling.
- The following items must be completed and on file prior to the first day of class of the fall semester:
- Approved health form within the last six months (after June 1).
- TB skin test (current within the last year) and must remain current.
- CPR card (current within the last year) and must remain current.
- Malpractice insurance through school purchased in the spring semester.
- Hepatitis B recommended or declination form signed.

Lateral Entry- Code C55430
The Lateral Entry curriculum provides a course of study leading to the development of the general pedagogy competencies needed to become certified to teach by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Students currently working in the school system as Lateral Entry candidates should meet, upon graduation, the general pedagogy competencies within the first three years of teaching, including a minimum of six semester hours per school year. Additional requirements, such as pre-service training and passing the PRAXIS, are required for licensure.
As of Fall 2007, students no longer need to be working within the public school system to pursue this certificate.
