What is the AHS Program?

Adult High School (AHS) is a program of instruction of core courses required by the Wilson County Public Schools System along with electives offered by Wilson Community College. Twenty-five (25) core and elective course credits must be earned with a minimum grade of a ‘D’ to earn an AHS diploma. Some high school courses taken in the public schools or at other community colleges may be transferred to Wilson Community College’s Adult High School Diploma Program. Passing the North Carolina Competency Test is a requirement for graduation.

What is taught?

Instruction in AHS includes required course work in the areas of math, science, social studies, English, and electives.

Who is eligible?

Adults 18 and over (or sixteen- or seventeen-year olds with the proper release forms from the public school and parents) may enroll in this high school completion program. Placement test scores of at least grade nine on appropriate reading, math, and language tests are also required for enrollment.

How long does it take to complete?

Each student progresses at his/her own speed. Students must successfully pass achievement tests in each subject area and make a satisfactory score on the N.C. Competency examination.
