The Nurse Aide Level I course at Wilson Community College introduces basic nursing skills required to provide personal care for patients or residents in a health care related setting. The Nurse Aide Level I course involves 180 hours of instruction. Course work includes 170 hours of class, laboratory, and clinical learning experiences. CPR training and basic computer charting skills are also taught. Some class schedules require weekend clinical hours to complete the course requirements.

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be eligible for testing with Pearson Vue, the North Carolina approved Nurse Aide Level I testing agency. The student must complete the application process and include the $92.00 testing fee. A written exam and a skills assessment are administered. A passing score in both areas will allow the applicant to be listed as a Certified Nurse Aide Level I. Initial listing remains in effect for two years following the original date.
Certified Nurse Aides can work in hospitals, nursing homes, doctor offices, or private homes. Wages vary greatly according to employer, job duties, and hours worked. Certified Nurse Aides in the Wilson area should expect to earn the following: $8 - $14 per hour.
