Basic Industrial Electricity

Designed for industrial maintenance mechanics and apprentices to develop basic electrical concepts, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting skills. Textbook required, approximately $120. (4.8 CEU)

Introduction to MIG Welding

Introduction to the practical operation in the use of gas metal arc welding (MIG-microwire-short arc) process. Covers power sources, operation, shielding gases and safe practices. Textbook required. (6.0 CEU)

Mechanical Print Reading

This 40-hour course is an introduction to blueprint reading and sketching, ANSI and SI metric drafting symbols and standards, as well as drafting terminology. Information on the basic principles of the blueprint, lines, views, dimensioning procedures and notes will also be covered. (4.0 CEU)

Basics of Tire Manufacturing

This 32-hour course is designed to provide basic preparation for entry-level jobs in the tire manufacturing industry. Textbook and materials approximately $50. Admission by application only; a copy of the student’s high school diploma, GED, or transcript must be attached. Applications available at Wilson Community College, Room B-105. Applicant must be 18 years of age. (3.2 CEU)

Pre-registration required five (5) days prior to first class session.

Classes will be held in Building E, Room 102, and the registration fee is $137.

This four-hour course provides electrical contractors with updated information on the latest changes in the National Electric Code, NC Electric Code, and local utility company requirements. The course reviews new materials and procedures, and related code requirements. (0.4 CEU)

Introduction to Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

Wilson Community College, working with area pharmaceutical industries, has developed this 104-hour course to provide basic preparation for entry level operator jobs in pharmaceutical manufacturing. Course competencies include safety, quality, solid dose tableting, coating, and packaging. Math, teamwork, time management and problem solving are incorporated where appropriate in the course.

Students who successfully complete this course will be granted job interviews with local pharmaceutical manufacturing companies for applicable openings.

Requirements: Completed application including documentation of high school diploma, GED, or higher degree; signed agreement form, and documentation of appropriate reading and math college placement test scores. Textbook required. (10.4 CEU)

ServSafe Food Service

This 16-hour course is designed to give food handlers the understanding of proper sanitation precautions and point out the results to be expected should these precautions not be taken. Students will study infections and illnesses, proper food-handling techniques, personal hygiene, personal safety, and be made aware of the OSHA regulations. REQUIRED text, Food Safety Management Principles and Exam, should be purchased from the College bookstore; begin reading prior to class. There is a $40 fee for North Carolina certification testing materials which must be paid when registering for the course.

Restaurants should take advantage of this opportunity to receive a two-point bonus on their sanitation inspection grades. NOTE: Effective July, 2009, two points will be deducted from the inspection grade if a person in charge of the facility has not completed an approved ServSafe course.
