Malpractice Insurance

Dialysis, Nurse Aide (Levels I and II), Phlebotomy, and Pharmacy Technician courses require malpractice insurance ($15.00) and student accident insurance ($2.00).

Activity Director Basic

This 60-hour course is designed to provide basic training to become an Activity Director in a health care related setting. Activity Directors for Adult Care Homes are required by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulations to complete a minimum of 50 hours in an approved Activity Director course. Activity Directors for nursing facilities are required to complete the 50-hour basic course with an additional minimum of ten hours in documentation, including the assessment and care planning process. At registration, students must provide a copy of their high school diploma or GED. Textbook required, approximately $150. (6.0 CEU)

Dialysis Technology

Prepares individuals with theoretical, technical, and clinical skills needed to maintain equipment and provide patient care to those being treated for chronic renal diseases. Successful completion of this course will prepare individuals for employment as a dialysis technician in hospitals, renal dialysis facilities, and clinics. After one year of work experience, individuals may be eligible to sit for national certification as a Clinical Hemodialysis Technician. (13.1 CEU)

ECG Training

This 78-hour course is designed to give students a basic introduction to the 12-lead ECG. Students will gain knowledge of the basic medical terminology of the cardiovascular system, understand the structure and function of the heart, and be introduced to the basic anatomy and physiology of the heart. Students will learn why an ECG is performed, the preparation and placement of an ECG lead, to identify common artifacts of an ECG, and to operate equipment to perform an ECG. This course is recommended for the student who already has a background in the health area. At registration, students must provide a copy of their high school diploma or GED. Textbook required, approximately $50. (7.8 CEU)

Hospital Unit Coordinator

This 90-hour course prepares students for an entry-level position in a hospital or health care facility. Includes medical terminology, written communication and documentation skills, data entry skills, and knowledge of basic medical laws and ethics. Students must provide proof of high school diploma or GED at the first class meeting. (9.0 CEU)

Medical Terminology

This 130-hour course is an introduction to the study of the structure of medical words and terms. Emphasis is placed on spelling and defining commonly used prefixes, suffixes, root words, their combining forms and body organization. Program content covers the basic human anatomy and physiology for all systems, elements of medical terms and names of major diseases, including terms used in physical exams, operative procedures and diagnosis. Medication Aide

Successful completion of this 28-hour course qualifies the Nurse Aide Level I to be listed on the North Carolina Medication Aide registry regulated by the NCBON. (2.8 CEU)

Pharmacy Technician Training

This 105-hour course prepares students to work in a pharmacy to assist with day to day activities under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Students will attend 93 hours of lecture at Wilson Community College and will be expected to attend 12 hours of clinical rotation at local pharmacies. At registration, students must provide a copy of high school diploma or GED. Textbook required (approx. $100). Required supplies, approximately $20. (10.5 CEU includes 2.0 CEU of Law)

Phlebotomy Training and Clinical Education

Early Registration Required. Entrance into the Phlebotomy program is by application and will be limited to twenty (20) completed applications per class. (go to application information)

An 118-hour course to prepare students to draw blood specimens from patients for testing and analyzing. A phlebotomy trainee maintains equipment used in obtaining blood specimens, masters the use of appropriate communication skills when working with patients, selection of venipuncture sites, care of blood specimen, entry of the testing process into the computer, as well as clerical duties associated with record keeping of the blood tests. Each student must complete 100 successful venipunctures. There will be weekend hours involved to complete the clinical requirements; clinical hour schedules vary as approved by the clinical site. Textbook required. (11.8 CEU)

Nurse Aide Training

Nurse Aide Level I

Entrance is by application and early registration is required. (go to application information)

This course prepares students to perform basic nursing skills for patients or residents in a health care related setting. Course includes class, laboratory and clinical learning experiences. Upon successful completion of the course and the state-administered skills evaluation, the student will be eligible for listing with the Division of Health Service Regulations on the Nurse Aide Level I Registry in North Carolina as a Nurse Aide Level I. The Nurse Aide will always work under the supervision and direction of a licensed nurse. Initial listing with the Division of Health Service Regulations will be in effect for two years following the skills evaluation. There will be weekend hours involved to complete the clinical requirements. Schedule may vary to meet certification requirements. Textbook required.

This 175-hour course prepares the Nurse Aide Level I to perform more complex skills in the health care setting. REQUIREMENTS: completed Nurse Aide Level II application; currently listed on the Nurse Aide Registry in North Carolina; malpractice insurance, approx. $15; textbook, approx. $60.
