Wilson Community College does not discriminate or permit discrimination by any member of its community against any individual on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, familial status, veteran status, genetic information, or citizenship in matters of admission, employment, or services or in the educational programs or activities it operates.
Harassment, whether verbal, physical, or visual, that is based on any of these characteristics is a form of discrimination. This includes harassing conduct affecting tangible job benefits, interfering unreasonably with an individual’s academic work or work performance, or creating what a reasonable person would perceive is an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment. Prohibited sex discrimination includes sexual harassment and sexual violence.
Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 protects individuals from discrimination based on sex in any educational program or activity operated by the College. Sexual harassment, which includes sexual violence, is a form of sex discrimination prohibited by Title IX. The College has designated Title IX Coordinators to coordinate the College’s compliance with and respond to inquiries concerning Title IX.
The Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act (SaVE) amends the Clery Act and increases transparency on campus about incidents of sexual violence, guarantees victims enhanced rights, sets standards for disciplinary proceedings, and requires campus-wide prevention education programs. SaVE adds domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking to sexual assault crimes and also adds hate crimes based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and national origin to Clery hate crimes that must be reported.
