The College Transfer/General Education department offers courses in a variety of programs for students to earn the Associate in Arts (A.A.), Associate in Science (A.S.) degree, or the Transfer Core Diploma.

The Associate in Arts degree curriculum is designed for students pursuing liberal arts.  Students must take a core of required liberal arts courses in English, fine arts and humanities, mathematics, natural science, social science, health, and physical education.  In addition to the core courses, students must take additional courses based on their specialized interests and electives for a total of 65 semester hours credit.

The Associate in Science curriculum requires a heavier concentration of science and mathematics courses with less emphasis on humanities/fine arts and social/behavioral sciences.  Students desiring to major in a health-related, science, or mathematics field would follow the requirements for this degree for a total of 65 semester hours credit.

The Transfer Core Diploma curriculum is designed for students pursuing a College Transfer degree from a four-year university but will not be graduating with an Associate Degree from Wilson Community College.  Students must take a core of required liberal arts courses in English, fine arts and humanities, mathematics, natural science, and social science for a total of 44 semester hours credit.

Participants in the College Transfer Program have the opportunity, if they meet specific criteria, to transfer as a junior in their respective major into a four-year institution in the 16-member University of North Carolina System or some private colleges and universities.

The mission of the College Transfer/General Education department is to provide quality educational experiences to the College Transfer Students; to prepare College Transfer students for transfer to and success at four-year colleges and universities; to provide General Education to students in other programs; and to educate students in the General Education Core Competencies.
