Foundation: Alumni Story - Tracy Taylor

Alumni Tracy Taylor

I transferred to Wilson Community College after attending East Carolina University in Greenville for a year and a half. I wanted to be closer to my family and didn’t like the impersonal feeling associated with a large university.  I began attending Wilson Community College in 1987.   A lot of the classes I had taken at ECU transferred and I was able to jump right in to the Business Administration course of study.  While at Wilson Community College, I reconnected with old friends and made many new friends.  I enjoyed my educational experience and graduated with an Associate Degree in Business Administration in September of 1988.

My first few jobs after graduation included an office assistant at a car dealership, a secretary at a long distance trucking company, and an administrative assistant at a credit agency.   Although I gained valuable experience, I knew that those positions were only stepping stones in my career path.  In July 1993, I began my career with the State of North Carolina.  Throughout my 15 year career in State Government, I have had the opportunity to work with different state agencies.  They include the NC Forensic Tests for Alcohol Branch, the NC Division of Parks and Recreation, and the NC Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.  My education and experience has brought me full circle as I am currently the Administrative Secretary for Finance and Administrative Services at Wilson Community College.  Now, I have the opportunity to assist students in securing the education that will enable them to succeed in life.  I am proud of the education I received and I am proud to work for an institution that realizes the need for quality education and strives to offer it. Wilson Community College is a highly respected learning institution as well as a wonderful place to work.  The sense of family among the employees and students is like none I’ve ever experienced.  Wilson Community College was the right choice for me as a student in 1987 and as an employee in 2007.   I only hope that I can give back as much as it has given me.
