Tax Credits Are Available For Energy Efficiency

April 2, 2009

Have you recently been thinking about a home improvement or replacement project? Possibly a new roof or a new heating and air system? You may even be in the market for a new car, with all of the recent manufacturer purchasing incentives that are being advertised.

A new Energy Tax Credit was included in the Stimulus and Recovery package, which was signed into law February 17, 2009.

Tax credits are currently available at 30% of the cost, with no upper limit through
2016 for existing homes and new constructions for:

  • Geothermal Heat Pumps
  • Solar Panels
  • Solar Water Heaters
  • Small Wind Energy Systems
  • Fuel Cells

Note: These systems must be placed in service before December 30th, 2016.

Tax credits are currently available at 30% of the cost, or up to $1,500 in 2009 and 2010 for existing homes only, for:

There are also tax credits available for efficient cars and for homebuilders. The new energy tax credit also includes certain tax deductions for commercial buildings.

Make sure that you take advantage of what the new Federal Tax Credits for Energy Efficiency have to offer when you are researching your home improvement or replacement projects or if you are considering purchasing a new vehicle.
