In recent years, the economy, life experiences, and changes in Federal regulations regarding financial aid and Pell awards, have presented Wilson Community College with an increase in the number of students, approaching the end of their community college careers, who are unable to graduate due to lack of financial resources. A Race to the Finish - Scholarship Run and related Finish Line Project will directly benefit these students.
Funds will be earmarked for students within one or two classes of attaining their educational goals, whose continued enrollment at WCC is at risk because of financial distress. The emergency situation must be due to extraordinary circumstances that are both unforeseeable and beyond the control of the student.
Eligibility requirements include a recommendation from the financial aid department, an interview with the dean of student development or designee. Student must be in good academic standing (2.0 GPA), have no history of disciplinary or behavioral issues, and have exhausted all available financial options.
Proceeds will provide emergency monetary assistance to students in financial distress for tuition, books, supplies and fees.
In order to assist the maximum number of students in need, the awards distributed to recipients will range from approximately $50 to $300.
