Why meet with a career counselor?
Many topics and resources can be accessed virtually through EmploymeNC
; however, we also suggest scheduling an appointment with a career counselor for personalized sessions. Together we can develop and carry out plans for meaningful vocational achievement, success, and satisfaction. Remember, our resources online and in the Career Development Center (Room F-105e) are very helpful; however, human feedback is tailored to meet your individual needs and goals.
If you can't make it to campus during regular business hours, that is no problem! Our counselors are also available via e-mail, telephone, and video chat. Limited evening appointments may also be accommodated.
All students who schedule a session with a career counselor should arrive on time, be prepared, and be ready to work. Your time is valuable and we would like to help you accomplish a substantial amount during your 60-minute meeting.
What are career assessments and why are they important?
Career assessments help you better understand your own interests, skills, values, and other traits. They aren't tests, so there is no right or wrong answer- you just have to answer them truthfully. The results of career assessments help you make better, more fulfilling choices that should encourage longevity and satisfaction with your career choices.
Dates of career fairs and workshops on campus?
Career Development Services hosts career-focused fairs, workshops, panel discussions, and classroom presentations throughout the year. Each of these is designed to enhance vocational access, preparedness, and opportunities. Please access EmploymeNC
to register for our upcoming career fairs and other related events. Students can access this by clicking on the "Students Find Jobs" link at the top of this page. Employers can access this through Wilson Community College's local employer login (you will use the same EmploymeNC
login information on both the consortium-level and local site).
Career counselors welcome requests from faculty, staff, and student groups who are seeking classroom presentations and workshops. Please complete the Request Form to schedule your next event.
What is Resume Referral?
Career Development Services maintains relationships with area employers and organizations. As a service to our students and employers, those currently enrolled or graduated from a curriculum program are given an opportunity to submit resumes for co-op/internship and job referrals.
When an employer requests candidate referrals, a career counselor will offer available resumes that have been submitted. To take advantage of this service please download and complete the Job Referral Form. This form, along with a quality resume can be submitted to Student Development in F-100.
Please note: A fully completed form along with a quality resume need to be submitted together. Incomplete submissions will be discarded.
