The College & Career Readiness

The mission of the College & Career Readiness Program is to provide adult students and teenagers (ages 16 and 17) with the academic knowledge and skills necessary to become workforce or college ready.

Students are prepared for:

  • College readiness programs
  • Job training opportunities
  • Providing basic to advanced skills in
    • Reading
    • Math
    • Language
    • Writing
    • Communications studies

In three programs of study:

  • Adult Basic Education
  • Adult Secondary Education
    • Adult High School Program
    • NC high School Equivalency Program (formerly known as the GED)
  • English Language Program

The three programs’ learning objectives are carried out in four (4) pathways: 

  • Cooperative Pathway
  • Employability Pathway
  • Occupational Career Pathway
  • Pre-College Pathway

Admission

Anyone 16 years and older, who has been out of school for at least six months, and has met the admission requirements, may enroll in any pathway program.

Admission requirements:

Students in line to graduate.An assessment of the student's academic skills will be used in determining admission to the pathway programs.

Tuition and Fees:
Tuition -  Free
Books – Free
Security Fee - $15.00 per semester
(on-campus classes only)

Cooperative

Adult Basic Education (ABE)

  • Increase Basic Reading, Writing, and Math Skills

  • Transition to the ASE Program (optional)

English Language Program (ELP)

  • Obtain a Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced Level English Skills Certificate.
  • Complete Career Exploration Course
  • Pathway to Citizenship (optional)
  • Transition to the ABE or ASE Program (optional)
Employability

  • Apply Reading, Writing, and Math Skills to Real World Learning Situations
  • Learn Job Seeking Strategies
  • Transition to the ASE Program (optional)

Adult Secondary Education (ASE)

  • Obtain a High School Credential
  • Learn Job Seeking Strategies
  • Obtain a Career Readiness Certification (CRC)
Occupational Career Adult Secondary Education (ASE) Student graduate
Adult High School (AHS) High School Equivalency (HSE)
  • Obtain High School Credential
  • Explore Occupational Careers
  • Obtain a Career Readiness Certification Credential
  • Enroll in a Continuing Education Certificate Program (a free WCC course may be applicable)
Pre-College Adult Secondary Education (ASE)
Adult High School (AHS) High School Equivalency (HSE)
  • Obtain a High School Credential
  • Refresh Academic Skills (high school graduates only)
  • Identify Career Interests
  • Complete WCC Admissions College Placement Requirements
  • Enroll in a Curriculum Program (a free WCC course may be applicable)
