Jobs Now"With state agencies, local governments, business leaders and citizens working together we will create new jobs, put people back to work, and train our workers for success. Through JobsNOW, we can get our economy back on track while laying the foundation for a strong and sustainable economic future." - Bev Perdue

Introduction to the Program

A Speedy Path to a New Career

Since the recession's start, North Carolina's employers have eliminated more than 175,000 jobs. Responding to the state's need to get people back to work, the North Carolina Department of Commerce and the N.C. Community College System have launched a new workforce development initiative, dubbed “JobsNOW."

The initiative, which is part of Governor Bev Perdue's larger job creation initiative, will create community college programs in careers that each require less than six months to complete. Employment Security Commission offices and career centers will connect job seekers with the training programs.

Wilson Community College is offering the following certificates in the JobsNOW program.

Business and Industry Skills Certificate
Specialized pathways include: Welding and Basic Electricity

Health Care Technician Certificate

Office Systems Certificate
Specialized pathways include:
Accounting Specialist and Medical Billing and Coding Specialist

Weatherization Technician Certificate

NOTICE: All hiring, scheduling, and compensation for program completers is to be handled directly between the student and the employer. Students are urged to perform due diligence prior to enrolling in the program by requesting information from the company or the Employment Security Commission in order to determine employment eligibility.
