Continuing Education:Human Resources Development (HRD)

The Human Resources Development (HRD) program provides job skills training to help unemployed and underemployed adults get the work-related skills training and the workplace basic skills and soft skills needed to change over to a new career or to get their desired job.

Human Resources Development (HRD) classes are tuition FREE and student fees are waived for qualifying adults who are unemployed, working part-time, or working full-time earning an annual income within the federal poverty guidelines. Most HRD courses do not require the purchase of a textbook.  Books are provided in the classroom.

Generally, HRD courses consist of discussions and practical applications on 2 or more of the following subject areas:

 

Career Readiness Prep II

Set yourself apart from the other job seekers and get your workplace skills certified.  Using the WorkKeys Assessment System, demonstrate to employers that you have the necessary skills for job training and development.  This course is designed to help students pass the WorkKeys’ Locating Information, Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, Writing, Listening, Business Writing, Applied Technology, Teamwork, and/or Observation tests or achieve a North Carolina Bronze, Silver, or Gold level Career Readiness Certificate.

Career Skills III - Workplace Effectiveness

This course is designed to help people improve their work habits in the following areas: teamwork, time management, problem solving and customer service. These are skills that employees need now and in the future to be successful in the workplace. (1.6 CEU)

This course is designed to help students choose the most appropriate resume format and produce a short document detailing their qualifications for a particular job or job target. (1.5 CEU)

Understanding Workplace Issues

This course will give students an opportunity to learn about the workplace and society and their role in both. Knowledge gained in this course will help students avoid unnecessary mistakes and problems in the workplace. (1.5 CEU)
