Growing Green Events and Courses

Wilson Community College provides quality educational programs and workshops to increase the knowledge and practice of sustainability. The College offers a variety of Webinars and educational programs such as Biodiesel, Energy Awareness, and Green Advantage® for Commercial Contractors. Green Advantage® for Commercial Contractors

Course Fee: $250.00 (Includes Exam fee)

This course is designed to prepare commercial contractors and sub contractors for the Green Advantage® Certification Exam.  The program utilizes real world, practical information to teach students the core concepts and construction principles behind sustainable building practices. Upon completion, students will have reviewed a variety of green practices in the construction process designed to reduce negative environmental impacts, and be prepared to take the commercial version of the Green Advantage® Certification Exam. A LEED® Innovation Credit, http://www.greenadvantage.org/usgbc-usgbc.php, can be granted for a project if a significant percentage of a project's building force is Green Advantage® Certified prior to the commencement of construction.

Topics covered include: rationale for green buildings, the design process, an overview of the LEED® rating system, construction operations, construction waste management practices, siting, the building structure, walls, windows, roofs, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, and equipment.

The course fee includes course registration and the Green Advantage® Certification Exam fee. The Green Advantage exam is TBA. Participants have 90 days from the course date to take the exam.

Space is limited to 20 registrants.  Pre-registration is required.
