Health and Wellness Committee
Purpose: The committee plans, develops, promotes, and coordinates campus-wide activities and programs that promote good health and wellness for our college community. This includes:
Last August I decided that I needed to redirect my lifestyle to a healthier one. So, my sister (who lives next door) and I began power walking 3 miles each weekday morning. This meant getting out each morning at 6:15 and walking for 50 minutes. In the beginning I worried that when the weather turns colder and the mornings are dark we might not be able to continue, but even when the temperature dips down into the twenties and it is dark, we bundle up and head out with our flashlights! I also became conscious of my diet. I have never dieted and did not want to start something that I could not maintain, so I began using portion-control. That means being conscious of eating until my stomach is satisfied – not my taste buds. I don’t deny myself any foods – just the amount. I also work with an exercise ball doing weight-bearing exercises 5 times a week for about 15 minutes. My dedication has paid off as I have lost 40 pounds, and have even been able to stop taking blood pressure medication.
