The Wilson Community College Foundation was organized in 1981 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. The Foundation’s mission is to promote the general welfare of the College by seeking support through the solicitation of gifts and bequests. The Foundation exists to ensure that the college is able to provide a quality college education at an affordable cost and to reduce the financial barriers to higher education. They accomplish this by awarding scholarships and tuition assistance to students, promoting program awareness and community engagement, as well as providing professional development to support faculty/staff development and career advancement.
The Wilson Community College Foundation provides more than $100,000 in scholarship assistance for tuition and other fees to about 120 students each year. These may be awarded based on achievement, talent or need.
Types of Scholarships Awarded
Unrestricted Funds: Donors who give an unrestricted gift enable versatility into their charitable giving. These resources are most useful to Wilson Community College from an ongoing basis in response to changing needs and opportunities. Donors entrust the Board of Directors to select the most appropriate allocations.
Restricted Funds: A gift may be restricted for a program of study (curriculum or continuing education), library and classroom resources, faculty and staff development, lecture series, opportunities in the arts, innovative grant possibilities, and more.
Scholarship Funds: Scholarship funds assist individuals pursuing educational goals and recognize individual excellence. Donors may specify the criteria for scholarship awards.
Endowment Funds: Choosing to endow your gift with the Wilson Community College Foundation ensures ongoing annual support in perpetuity. This is made possible through income generated annually from your investment of $10,000 or greater. The minimum donation of $10,000 to establish an endowed fund may be paid in one lump sum or over a period of three years.
To apply for a Foundation funded scholarship you begin in the Financial Aid office. Financial Aid staff members will inform you of the essay requirements and guide you through this process.
Other funds are used for professional development to aid faculty and staff and help provide accredited and highly qualified programs.
Programs & Initiatives
The Foundation works hard to promote a connection between the students, faculty, and staff at the college with individuals, businesses, and civic organizations in the community. We bring awareness to the many different programs offered at the college that bridge the needs between businesses and individuals seeking career opportunities. By highlighting all that the college has to offer, we are able to bring awareness to donors and therefore raise much needed funds that provide opportunities for the future of our students.
We also plan events and initiatives that promote enrichment and community engagement. If you would like to connect with the foundation through volunteer opportunities, please contact us.
The Wilson Community College Foundation accepts donations in many forms. Many give by check and designate the program or scholarship they would like the money to benefit. The Foundation also accepts donations of stock or other securities. Other donors may opt to participate in planned giving through the naming of the WCCF in their will, through a trust, life insurance policy, annuities, or donations of property. The Foundation staff is always available to discuss appropriate options and answer any questions. All donations to the Foundation are tax-deductible.
As Wilson Community College grows, so does our need for your support. Thank you.
