Job Description: Wilson Community College is looking for resident assistants for the Summer 2023 TRiO Upward Bound Summer Residential Program at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Under the Direction of the Upward Bound Coordinator, The primary objective of the Residential counselor position is to supervise the residential portion of the program and ensure the well‐being of program participants in grades 10 ‐ 12, with regard to health, safety, morale, discipline, interpersonal relationships, and academics during the residential portion of the Upward Bound Summer Residential Program. Residential counselors are expected to reside and sleep in their assigned housing during the program from Sunday night -Thursday night.
Qualifications: Ability to reside on site at North Carolina State University for six weeks. Demonstrated experience working with high school students from various races and ethnicity, economic backgrounds, religions, genders, sexual orientations, abilities, nations of origins, and other cultural backgrounds.
Essential Duties: Participate in summer activities (both daytime and evening activities) during the entire program duration). Accompany and supervise students during cultural and social activities. Clarify, monitor, and enforce rules consistently and report concerns/incidents in a timely manner. Attend Resident Counselor general meetings and meet with Upward Bound personnel when necessary. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided to participants. Lead group study sessions; including tutoring and teaching study skills. Provide pleasant, comfortable atmosphere conducive to maximum student growth. Conduct periodic room inspections. Take primary responsibility for students in his/her group by monitoring academic, personal and social progress and updating other staff as necessary.
Education and Experience: Must at least be classified as a junior at a 4-year college or university or have obtained a Bachelor's degree. One year of Student Advising preferred. CPR certification preferred. Driver’s License preferred.
