The State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) Foundation established the SECU Bridge to Career Program to help eliminate barriers for students seeking to earn state-regulated or industry-recognized credentials through the workforce continuing education division of their local community college.
SECU Foundation scholarships are awarded to qualifying Wilson Community College (WCC) students enrolled in either Biowork Process Technician for Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, Emergency Medical Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Training courses that lead to sustainable wage careers within their local communities. Eligible scholarship expenses are registration fees, instructional books/materials, and testing fees associated with approved courses and pathways. The student will receive any remaining funds for transportation, childcare, food, and housing expenses.
WCC is one of the twenty pilot community colleges within the North Carolina Community College System receiving $18,000 from the SECU Bridge to Career Program. For 2018-19, thirty students enrolled in one of the approved tracks are eligible for scholarships. To qualify, recipients must enroll in a short-term training program (ninety-six hours or more) that leads to a state-regulated or industry-recognized credential; be a U.S citizen and North Carolina resident; be among one of the following target groups – unemployed, underemployed, member of the NC National Guard, military veteran or spouse, or underserved populations in a specific workforce sector or area and; complete their pathway within the program year, which ends June 30, 2019.
