WCDSS & WCC Partnership Offers Opportunities

Wilson is a community on the rise. We are innovative, resilient, resourceful, and we continue to create initiatives that allow for further growth. And Wilson Community College is excited to be a part of it.

Wilson County Department of Social Services (WCDSS) made a huge impact in 2017 when it implemented the Food and Nutrition Services Employment & Training (FNS E&T) Program. This resource gives individuals an opportunity to gain the skills, training, and certifications needed to obtain long-term employment with higher wages. WCC has been a continued partner in offering these short-term education and workforce pathways.

Megan Clemons is the College’s contact for the FNS E&T program. She serves as the Education Navigator. Some of her major responsibilities include, but are not limited to, helping individuals select and register for continuing education and curriculum courses that align with their needs, providing motivational coaching throughout their journey, and networking with WCC, WCDSS, and other community stakeholders to encourage program awareness.

WCDSS and WCC and are actively searching for motivated individuals to join the FNS E&T Program. In order to qualify, you must:

  1. Be currently receiving (or eligible for) FNS benefits,
  2. Live in Wilson County,
  3. Be at least 16 years old, and
  4. Not receiving Work-First assistance.

WCDSS and WCC work together to cover the tuition and fees, textbooks, uniforms, and more at no cost to you! As a result, common barriers to education and employment are greatly reduced.

All referrals must be approved by the E&T Coordinator, Felicia Thigpen. Individuals must also complete a brief intake process and sign required paperwork to become an official participant. If you would like to be assessed for FNS benefits, call (252) 206-4000, and speak with the Customer Access Center.  You can also apply online at epass.nc.gov.

To learn more, contact Megan Clemons at mclemons@wilsoncc.edu or give her a call at (252) 246-1369.  You can also find her on campus every Friday in Building B, office 105a, from 8:00 a.m.- 3:00 pm.  At other times, she is available at WCDSS. #WilsonCC We make Wilson work.
