Earn a degree in accounting and finance online

Did you know that Wilson Community College has an online accounting and finance program?

In fact, accounting and finance is one of just a handful of Associate in Science degree programs at WCC that can be completed 100% online in two years’ time.

Did you also know that according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of accountants and auditors is projected to grow 10% from 2016-26, which is faster than the average for any occupation?

The accounting and finance curriculum is designed to provide students with the knowledge and the skills necessary for employment and growth in the accounting and finance profession. Accountants and finance professionals assemble and analyze, process and communicate essential information about financial operations. Students can earn their associate degree, diploma and four certificates completely online!

As students begin the program, they progressively earn certificates, then the diploma and, finally, the two-year associate degree. Students can even take as little as one class a semester, depending on their own schedules.

Upon successful completion of their associate’s degree, graduates should qualify for entry-level accounting and finance positions in all kinds of organizations, including accounting firms, small businesses, manufacturing firms, banks, hospitals, school systems and governmental agencies.

One growing job field in accounting is forensic accounting. Forensic accountants typically investigate fraud and embezzlement and analyze financial information for legal proceedings. Forensic accountants most often work in public accounting firms, law firms, financial institutions, insurance agencies or law enforcement agencies, just to name a few.

And in the field itself, some accountants may choose to earn more certifications, too. Students can study to become certified public accountants, internal auditors, managerial accountants or fraud examiners. Anyone who earns any or all of these credentials can opt to specialize in more specific areas, whether it’s financial services, public sector/governmental accounting or even gaming.

But maybe you want to take it a step further. Another great bonus is that the program has an articulation agreement with N.C. Wesleyan College. That means students can earn their accounting and finance degree here at WCC and transfer into Wesleyan as a junior to complete their bachelor’s degree.

In our accounting and finance program, you’ll find highly qualified instructors who are educated and trained in the accounting field, keep up with industry needs and truly care about students’ success.

“I always tell my students to not let your past serve as the permission slip for your future,” said accounting instructor Stephanie Meadows. “You have the power to change your future with one good decision at a time!”

Registration opens for the fall semester on Thursday, Aug. 12, but you can always call or visit us any time.
