It’s no secret that nurses are in high demand, and it’s such a great career that many aspire to do. In fact, year after year, Wilson Community College receives upwards of 600 applications for folks wanting to get into our nursing program. Some want to become Registered Nurses, and others are seeking a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
The scope of practice is different for the LPN compared to the RN. While the Practical Nursing (PN) program is just one year, the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program is two years.
We’re thrilled to announce a huge accomplishment that we’ve just learned. Both our PN and ADN programs have pass rates higher than the national average, according to the 2022 scores.
Our Practical Nursing students passed state boards with a 100% pass rate. This means those who took the NCLEX-PN passed and are now Licensed Practical Nurses. The Associate Degree Nursing students had a 94% pass rate on the NCLEX-RN, and they are now officially Registered Nurses. These students worked tirelessly for hours on end, often making sacrifices at home in order to earn their degrees and pass state boards. They deserve a huge round of applause!
And those pass rates are a true testimony to the quality instructors, programs, and community support we have. The nursing programs at WCC are dedicated to immersing the student in the nursing experience. We have labs and classrooms that allow students to apply their knowledge and gain hands-on experience through simulation. We even have a Virtual Medical Center located inside Wilson Medical Center. This partnership allows our students to practice through simulation on high-fidelity mannequins before working with a real patient – and it seems so real. Nursing students are given a variety of other clinical experiences, too. We have partnerships with not only our local hospital and clinics, but surrounding agencies as well. Sometimes agencies call us to help, which gives our students even more practice.
At Wilson Community College, we could not be prouder of our nursing programs and those who make them such a success — including our Wilson community.
