SACSCOC Key Student Completion Indicator
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requests that each institution selects a Student Completion Indicator and evaluate achievement of that indicator. Wilson Community College identified the National Student Clearinghouse Completion Rate as its completion measure. The Office of Institutional Research (IR) uses the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) Student Tracker Postsecondary Completion Institutional Benchmark Reports to assess and report the six-year total graduation rate for specific entering cohorts. Wilson Community College identifies an acceptable threshold of 40.5% for Completion Rates.
WCC reviews course success data generated by internal course success reports. All course sections offered each semester are listed on the Course Success Report, which is updated at the end of every academic term and shared with division deans and faculty. The report provides data on the most recent academic term. WCC identifies success in a course as a “C” or better to fall in-line with North Carolina Community College System practices. Overall course success is defined as 60% as a minimum threshold of accessibility.

NCCCS Performance Measures
Wilson Community College (WCC) identifies the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) Performance Measures as measures of student achievement and success. WCC is part of the North Carolina Community College System of 58 community colleges. The NCCCS identifies seven system-wide outcomes that all colleges within the system are evaluated on. The seven outcomes are:
- Basic Skills Progress: Established to ensure individuals with low literacy skills are progressing academically toward credential or employment. Expressed as an index score based on the percentage of Basic Skills periods of participation (POP) with a measurable skill gain (MSG).
- Student Success Rate in College-Level English Courses: Established to ensure students are successfully completing a credit‐bearing English course within their first three academic years. Expressed as an index score based on the percentage of first‐time fall associate degree seeking and transfer pathway students passing a credit‐bearing English course with a “C” or better within three years of enrollment.
- Student Success Rate in College-Level Math Courses: Established to ensure students are successfully completing credit‐bearing Math courses within their first three academic years. Expressed as an index score based on the percentage of first‐time fall associate degree seeking and transfer pathway students passing a credit‐bearing Math course with a “C” or better within three years of enrollment.
- First Year Progression: Established to ensure first‐year students are making progress toward credential completion. Expressed as an index score based on the percentage of first‐time fall credential‐seeking curriculum students graduated prior to or enrolled in postsecondary education the subsequent fall semester.
- Curriculum Student Completion: Established to ensure student completion and/or persistence toward a post‐secondary credential in a timely manner. Expressed as an index score based on the percentage of first‐time fall credential‐seeking curriculum students who graduate, transfer, or are enrolled during the fourth academic year with 42 successfully completed non‐developmental hours.
- Licensure and Certification Passing Rate: Established to ensure programmatic coursework prepares students to competently practice in their chosen profession. Expressed as index scores based on the percentage of first‐time test‐takers passing licensure and certification exams within each exam. Exams included in this measure are state mandated exams which candidates must pass before becoming active practitioners.
- College Transfer Performance: Established to ensure the academic success of community college students at a four‐year university or college. Index score based on the percentage of community college students (Associate Degree completers and those who have completed 30 or more articulated transfer credits) transferring at a four‐year university or college during the fall semester who remain enrolled at any four‐year university or college the subsequent fall semester or graduate prior to.
The NCCCS establishes performance baselines for each of the seven performance levels and WCC has set a threshold of acceptability that mirrors the NCCCS target levels for all seven measures.
