Testing Accommodations

If accommodations for accessibility services are required, please contact the Accessibility Services Coordinator/Counselor. Please allow up to two weeks for accommodations to be arranged.

Wilson Community College uses the Reinforced Instruction for Student Excellence (RISE) placement test administered via computer. The purpose of the placement test is to ensure curriculum students are accurately placed in English and math courses. The RISE placement tests are not timed.

Only applicants who do not meet one of the following criteria will be required to take the RISE placement test as part of the admissions process:

  • Graduated from a US High School .
  • Earned developmental course credit within the last 10 years.
  • Successfully completed a college-level (gateway) English or math course.
  • Completed an eligible placement test within the last 10 years.
  • Earned an associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.

Applicants who do meet one of the above criteria will be placed in English and math courses based on RISE Placement Guidelines and/or the RISE Placement Crosswalk.

It is very important to adequately prepare for the placement test. For more information on the format and content of the RISE placement test, please review the RISE Math Placement Test Preparation guide and the RISE English Placement Test Preparation guide.  A scientific calculator and formula sheet will be provided for the math portion of the placement test.  One repeat attempt is allowed for each tier of the placement test. The repeat attempt must be scheduled at least 30 days after the first attempt.

Placement test appointments can be made by calling contacting Student Development at 252-246-1281. All appointments will be scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on the date of the test.

There is not a cost associated with taking the placement test. Be sure to bring a photo ID (i.e. driver’s license).

Allied Health students MUST first complete a Wilson Community College application and all required transcripts and placement information must be received in order to sign up for the TEAS Test. Please visit https://www.wilsoncc.edu/apply-now/ if you have any admissions related questions.

TEAS Request Form and Sign Up

The cost of the TEAS Test is $70.00 and must be paid to the College’s Business Office by the day of the test. If you are confirmed for your selected date, be sure to arrive a few minutes early and bring your receipt of payment, photo ID, and atitesting.com login information. The test cannot be administered unless each of these are presented.

You CANNOT retest more than once in 12 months, and it MUST be at least 30 days since your last test attempt. Also, due to the number of applicants, spots may have already filled prior to your selected test date. If that happens, you will be contacted to schedule an alternative test date.

Please review the ATI TEAS V.7 Resources and Updates for the most current information.
