The LPN to RN transition program has been designed for Licensed Practical Nurses seeking to enter the Associate Degree Nursing program with advanced standing. Applicants must meet the admissions requirements outlined in the LPN -RN Packet below to be considered for admission to the Transition Program by the application deadline.
The application for the Transition Program opens July 1st every year and closes on October 15th.
Students admitted will take a hybrid transition course starting in March. The course will end in May and students will merge with the cohort available.
- The Day Transition Program is available in odd years.
- The Day or Evening Program is available even years.
Note: The Wilson Community College, Practical/Vocational Nursing Program, and Associate Degree in Nursing Program, is pursuing pre-accreditation candidacy status from the National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA), located at 2600 Virginia Avenue, NW, 8th Floor, Washington, DC 20037; phone 202-909-2487. Interested parties are invited to submit third party comments in writing directly to NLN CNEA (cneaaccreditation@nln.org) no later than November 26, 2025.
Upon successful completion of this program, the student should be able to:
- Implement caring interventions incorporating documented best practices for individuals in diverse settings.
- Practice professional nursing behaviors incorporating personal responsibility and accountability for continued competence.
- Incorporate informatics to formulate evidence-based clinical judgments and management decisions.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with individuals, significant support person(s), and members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Manage health care for the individual using cost-effective nursing strategies, quality improvement processes, and current technology.

- *This course is a component of the general education requirements needed for graduation.
- NOTE: Students are required to take ACA 111 in their first semester.
- NOTE: Once admitted to the nursing program, all remaining courses must be taken in sequence or completed during the required term.
- NOTE: If any facility prohibits the student from participating in the clinical experience, the student will be dismissed due to an inability to progress and complete the curriculum.
- NOTE: Clinical hours vary each semester based upon the availability of clinical sites.
Graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).
