Are you an aspiring musician who is interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree in music? Our Associate in Fine Arts in Music degree, consisting of a minimum of 60-61 semester hours, is designed for students who wish to complete the first two years of their bachelor’s degree in music at the community college and transfer to a four-year school to complete the last two years of a bachelor’s degree. In addition to general education courses, students will have the opportunity to take music-related courses, including fundamentals of music, applied music, chorus, and music theory.
Note: Community college graduates must obtain a grade of “C” or better in each course and an overall GPA of at least 2.7 on a 4.0 scale in order to transfer to the four-year institution with junior status. Courses may also transfer through bilateral agreements between institutions.
Note: Completion of an A.A., A.S., A.F.A. in Music, A.A.T.P., or A.S.T.P. degree does not guarantee admission to a four-year college or university or to specific programs.
Upon successful completion of this program, the student should be able to:
- Differentiate between various musical genres and styles, recognizing their unique characteristics and historical significance.
- Execute rhythms in both simple and compound meters.
- Apply critical reading skills through active and analytical reading at the college level, synthesizing and applying information across various disciplines.
- Produce coherent and well-organized compositions, adhering to Standard Written English standards, across a variety of purposes and audiences.
- Apply fundamental quantitative skills through orchestrating a musical selection.
